Sun Chemical has introduced a series of new durable UV varnishes to enhance the resistance of HP Indigo digital printing pressure sensitive labels for personal care, household, chemical, beverage and pharmaceutical applications.

The new series of varnishes are designed to provide adhesion to HP Indigo ElectroInk and are designed to provide a high level of mechanical durability for HP Indigo printed labels. It provides mechanical, chemical, water and heat resistance and can withstand bottle-to-bottle abrasion tests.

The new varnish promotes cross-linking with HP Indigo ElectroInk and primer layers to improve physical properties and high durability in challenging applications. They are print-ready, do not need to add any printing side additives for ease of use, and can be printed with standard UV coating equipment. They have been tested on some of the most popular label substrates, including PP white, PP transparent, and metalized substrates to ensure consistent performance levels.

The package contains two new products: EV-LU028 GLOSS and EV-LU029 MATTE. The series can be ordered immediately. Commercial production has already begun in Europe, and other regions will soon follow.

"For months, we have conducted field trials with the HP Indigo community in many countries, and the response has been very good," said Marcos Valdezate, Sun Chemical's digital SunEvo coatings global business development manager. "Customers have questioned the durability of these varnishes and have seen their durability. This is another good example of how coating innovations can expand the range of applications of digital printers and actively expand their products.

"Through innovative varnishes, adhesives and coatings, DIC and Sun Chemical enable HP Indigo customers to seek cutting-edge solutions," added Itai Shifriss, HP Indigo's global consumables business director. "We are grateful for our cooperation with DIC and Sun Chemical, and look forward to working together to promote the development of our customers."
